Who says that you can't have a luxury night away a three course dinner and a cooked breakfast all for less that £100? Well you can, and that is exactly what we did!
The Marine Hotel on Whitstable seafront may look pricey from the outside with all of its grandeur and decorative interiors. However, they do offer an amazing deal between January and March perfect to blow away those post-Christmas blues. We booked to go on their deal in which you get your hotel room, a three course meal off of their set menu and then your morning breakfast all for £99. For us this was ideal as to do that normally at full price would be out of the question for just one night.
We got there and parked around the back of the hotel in their carpark which is by the public tennis courts. This isn’t a particularly big carpark though so it is worth noting that the road parking is free and does not have time restrictions. Always best to check though before you leave your car that restrictions haven’t suddenly popped up as a parking ticket would ruin your special night away! We went into the hotels reception desk to see if we could perhaps leave our overnight bag with them, as we got there in the morning to make the most of the day but you cannot check in until early afternoon. The receptionist was so lovely and took our bag for us and labelled it ready to be sent to the room when it was available. She then checked and it turned out that she could put us in one that was ready straight away. This kind of consideration really set the tone for the rest of the trip. The room was spacious with a sea view, and the bed was so comfortable after dropping our stuff we went for a walk along the beach. Even though it is a small seaside town there is so much to see.
You can walk all across the front, through the harbour markets where small businesses’ can hire a hut to sell from. See the boats from the sailing school parked up on the beach and walk right into the main town which has a large array of local shops as well as a small Sainsbury’s and a Costa Coffee. As everything is on your doorstep you don’t need a car at all to get anywhere you can see the sights within walking distance of the hotel.
The dinner was by far the highlight of the trip! Even though it is a set menu dinner for those that are staying on the deal there are still plenty of options to choose from. For starters, I had the Chilli and Lime Gambas prawns as they are quite expensive dish there was a small supplement for this but it is worth paying the little extra when the whole stay is on such a good deal. For mains, we went for the burger which was huge! Although so nice a few chips were sacrificed in order to ensure there was room left for pudding. We definitely outdid ourselves and had warm chocolate brownie with ice cream. Feeling very full up we headed into the bar lounge area for an evening glass of wine before heading up to let the food coma take over!
Breakfast was served in a different dining area to dinner and the change of scenery suited the time of day. A light and airy room with high celling’s and glass windows all the way round to look out of felt like a good place to start the day. Still feeling full from the night before decided it would be best not to have a full breakfast so chose their salmon bagel which came with runny poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. A lovely way to end a brilliant night away. Even better when you know that this post-Christmas treat isn’t going to break the bank.
