Whether it is a traditional full English or a Bagel Breakie we have ranked the top 5 best places to go in Kent with something for every taste and every budget.
CÔTE Brasserie - Maidstone
Having discovered that this restaurant chain are now open for a breakfast was a dream come true! Giving you all the vibes of French café right here in Kent. They have an amazing range of breakfast options from savoury crepes to a more traditional eggs benedict, as well as a breakfast offer making this a more affordable brunch. Their menu offers a choice of fresh apple or orange juice AND tea or coffee as well as your main breakfast for £9.99! When we have visited cafes before with the idea of brunch in mind they normally only offer tea or filter coffee in the price of your breakfast with a fruit juice at an additional charge. Having this included was a nice change, if you thought it couldn’t get any better from here you also get a choice of included coffee rather than the standard filter, you could treat yourself to a cappuccino or flat white. I went for the Veggie breakfast however not being a vegetarian I was unsure about the meatless sausage alternative so I asked the waiter if it would be possible to swap it for a regular sausage which was no problem at all. When it came out it was beautifully presented with runny poached eggs which we all know is key. Needless to say, there was only an empty plate left. Overall, cote brasserie provides a relaxing atmosphere, great customer service and a delicious breakfast with something for every taste.

The Marine Hotel - Whitstable
We had breakfast at the hotel as part of our stay (See the post The Marine Hotel Review) however, it is open for anyone wanting to try it out for themselves regardless of whether you are staying. The breakfast room is light and airy with glass surrounding the restaurant for the ultimate view. With high celling’s and indoor plants it gives the feel that you could be anywhere. A reasonable selection of breakfast cereals are available as well as yogurt, fresh fruit and oats. I went for the salmon bagel with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce which didn’t disappoint. The hollandaise came in a small jug on the side for you to pour on yourself and the salmon was very fresh. After a lovely evening before waking up to a proper breakfast to see us through the journey home as exactly what was needed. Good food, in enjoyable surroundings makes it the perfect start to the day either to treat someone for an occasion or just because!
Hayden’s - Rye (Technically not Kent but too good to leave out!)
Hayden’s is a family run cafe in the heart of Rye Highstreet. Initially it is deceiving as it looks from the window as if it is a small café. However, it actually opens out at the back into a large space with a light and airy conservatory looking over Rye. Something which I especially love about this place is that all of their ingredients are sourced locally and on the back of their menus you can see where the produce has come from. Not only is this great to know that you’re eating local but it also helps to promote and support local businesses. One of my favourite things to order here would be their cheddar eggs. With this you get a warm cheese scone with poached eggs, bacon and grated cheese on it. The only thing I would have to add about this is that even though their drinks menu is extensive and organic, they don’t do any sugar free fizzy options and you also cannot book a table here in advance. This is such a great place to stop off at after walking the cobbled streets and looking in all of the quaint shops definitely worth a visit!
Headcorn Village Tearooms – Headcorn
This is somewhere where I have been going for a long time and is perfect to pop to for breakfast. It is only a 30 minute drive outside of Maidstone and very close to Ashford and Tenterden as well. This definitely does what it says on the tin, serving home cooked food in the centre of the village. They have a very large menu that is available all day and is a watering hole for locals. I would recommend the sausage and egg baguette from here that is great for a breakfast treat or a lunchtime pick. With fried eggs that are spot on every time, butchers sausages and fresh baked baguette there isn’t a lot that could go wrong. Booking would be recommended as this being in the heart of the village it can get very busy at times. They have a large premises and will always do their best to accommodate even larger parties can be catered for. They also have a small garden outdoors with parasols for summer time to enjoy.
Frankie’s Farm Shop and Nursery – Staplehurst
Frankie’s is yet another family owned café that is off the beaten track housed in a large converted barn. They have a large restaurant area and outside space in which dogs are welcome. They have a farm shop in which locally sourced produce can be purchased as well as a nursery area where you can find reasonably priced plants and pots for your garden. Their breakfast is freshly made to order and you can see it being made in their open kitchen at the back of the restaurant which is something unique to this place. This recommendation can be a bit on the expensive side with tea and coffee unfortunately not included in the price of a full breakfast. Their sausage and fried onion sandwiches are very nice with homemade bread that definitely adds to the farmhouse feel of the place. Here you can also get a Scottish breakfast complete with black pudding and haggis which I thought was a bit different and something new to try. This is a place with a modern farmhouse feel in which you can make a morning of by looking round at what they have to offer.
